Tour Itinerary:
Intro: Esplanade Night Orientation & Script Introduction
Oberoi Grand Entrance, New Market
Our story begins outside the iconic Oberoi Grand hotel in Esplanade. Meet your actor-narrator who sets the cinematic premise: Kolkata speaks for herself through a dramatic monologue script reflecting her transformation from marshy mangrove lands to a vibrant midtown metropolis.

Act 1 : New Market Street Food Walk & Metro Transit
New Market, Chaat Alley & Metro Transit
Walk past historic cinema houses into Kolkata’s famous chaat market to understand how street food fueled evening trade. Sample authentic Phuchka, Jhaal Muri, hot Aloo Tikki, or Badshah’s famous rolls. Discover how diverse commercial communities created a peaceful culinary fusion. Afterward, take the Kolkata Metro from Esplanade to Central Metro Station.
Act 2: Bowbazar GreyTown Heritage Walk & Revolutionary Food Trail
Bowbazar, Firinghee Kalibari, Bhim Nag, College Street & Allen Kitchen
Explore Bowbazar in historic “GreyTown,” visit the sacred Firinghee Kalibari temple, and stop at Bhim Nag (est. 1826) to sample traditional Kheer Chop and Sandesh. Walk past Medical College toward College Street to learn about student revolutions over cold coffee at Indian Coffee House. Board a local bus to Laxmi Narayan Shaw & Sons for Peyaji and Mango/Aloo Chops—the street food that secretly fueled early 20th-century freedom fighters. Finish with iconic ghee-fried cutlets at Allen Kitchen before riding the metro to Chandni Chowk.

Act 3: Midtown Nightlife & Retro Pub Culture
Broadway Hotel (Chandni Chowk)Â
Step into Broadway Hotel to experience Kolkata’s retro evening pub culture. Share stories over classic dishes like Mutton Kasha with roti or Paneer Masala. As the evening winds down, your narrator delivers the moving final lines of the monologue script.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where exactly is the meeting point, and how do I reach it?
We gather outside the main entrance of The Oberoi Grand Hotel in New Market (Esplanade). The location is centrally located and easily accessible via the Kolkata Metro (get off at Esplanade Metro Station), local yellow taxis, or rideshare apps like Uber/Ola. Please aim to arrive by 4:50 PM so we can begin our orientation promptly at 5:00 PM.
What happens if I am stuck in Kolkata traffic and running late?
Midtown Kolkata can get busy in the evening, but because our narrative journey relies on fixed subway timings and local bus transfers, the group departs on time. If you are running late, send us a WhatsApp message immediately. We will send you a live location pin so you can meet the group at our first food stop in New Market or nearby.
Is the street food safe and hygienic for foreign visitors or sensitive stomachs?
Absolutely. Guest health and safety are our top priorities. Every single food vendor and heritage stop on this route—from Bhim Nag (est. 1826) to Allen Kitchen—is a renowned, high-turnover local institution with decades of reputation. For street preparations like Phuchka, we use specialized dry/spiced preparations without unfiltered water.
Are there vegetarian or vegan options available on this tour?
Yes! Kolkata’s street food and snack scene is exceptionally friendly to vegetarians. Vegetarian options include Phuchka and Jhaal Muri in New Market, traditional artisan sweets at Bhim Nag, Peyaji and Aloo/Mango Chops at Laxmi Narayan Shaw & Sons, and Veg Cutlets at Coffee House.
What if I have specific food allergies?
Please notify your actor-guide during the evening orientation. Because we order items fresh at every stop, your guide can easily adapt or swap out specific dishes to accommodate nut, dairy, or gluten sensitivities.
How much walking is involved, and what should I wear?
This is a moderate 4.5-hour walking, transit, and food-tasting tour. While we use the Kolkata Metro and public buses to cover longer distances, you will walk through vibrant market lanes, historic alleyways, and heritage neighborhoods. Wear comfortable, breathable walking shoes and lightweight cotton clothing.
Is alcohol included in the tour price?
No, alcoholic beverages at our final pub stop (Broadway) are self-paid. This allows non-drinkers and families to enjoy the food, music, and atmosphere without paying extra platform charges. Soft drinks, tea, and cold coffees along the route are included or easily covered with your transit cash.
Why do I need to carry ₹500 in cash?
Carrying ₹500 in cash per person helps us keep our direct ticket price accessible. This cash goes directly towards your personal transit fares and extra drinks at the bar.
What are the benefits of upgrading to the Private VIP Tour (₹5,500/person)?
The Private VIP Tour offers an all-inclusive, hassle-free evening. You get a private air-conditioned vehicle for all transfers between stops, a dedicated private actor-guide, and 100% pre-covered food tastings, snacks, and pub dinner dishes. Simply mention “Private Kolkata Tour” when contacting us on WhatsApp!

I joined an afternoon tour with Get Local in Kolkata, and it was truly a wonderful experience. My guide, Polo, was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly easy to talk to. Throughout the tour, she answered all my questions about Kolkata with great detail and clarity, helping me understand the city far beyond what I could have learned on my own. The tour itself was engaging, emotional, and very well balanced. We visited a variety of places across the city, from some of the most iconic and traditional sights to locations that were more moving and thought-provoking. This mix gave me a much deeper appreciation of Kolkata, its history, and its people. What really made the experience special was Polo’s enthusiasm, local knowledge, and ability to explain everything in such an interesting and accessible way. She made me feel comfortable throughout the tour and helped bring the city to life. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kolkata. It was a memorable experience, and Polo’s guidance made it even better.Posted on Google Girija MuralidharanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Along with my son and family we were in Kolkata just for 2 days during the second week of March 2026. We had chosen the Get Local tour guide Paulami after going through the reviews about her. She had planned our 2 days itinerary giving us a cinematic tour experience. The tour followed a scripted narrative. Paulami was good at storytelling and explaining. We bonded with her very well asking her many questions. Though Paulami changed our route because of the PM's visit to Kolkata that day. we covered all the places in the list. Our cinematic tour experience on day 1 were as follows---(Act 1 ) Where Time Stands Still ----) Kumartuli Potters colony in North Kolkata, which was a long stretch with artisans working on the clay models. Very interesting to watch. they mould the clay into life like statues. Then we spent more than 2 hours at Jorasanko Thakurbari , the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore. Act 2) Where Ideas took shape---- College Street. We were amazed to see rows and rows of second hand book shops lined on both the sides of the road. Poulami guided us to the legendry Indian Coffee House which was frequented by freedom fighters and great thinkers of that era. The place was very run down, with wires dangling from every nook and corner, cobwebs hanging low, dilapidated staircase smelly wash rooms and so on. In spite of such a condition tourists throng this place for old time sake where food is served throughout the day. This place is run by the staff since generations. Indeed it was a very unique place to dine out. Now we come to (Act 3) --Quite Power and Compassion------ In this segment it was the Calcutta Police Museum which we had to skip because we spent more time in the earlier visited places. Mother Theresa's House reflected the city's spirit of service and humanity. Act 4) The City of Empire--- We drove past Kolkata GPO, Writer's Building, Dalhousie Square and St. John's Church where we spent almost 2 hours soaking in its story and myths. Passed through St. Paul's Cathedral and made it before 5 pm to the majestic Victoria Memorial to buy the entry tickets. Ticket counter closes at 5pm. Once you are in it is no problem. Went around the huge place marvelling at the beauty and grandeur of this Land Mark iconic memorial. Act 5 ) Where the city finds his Soul------ The traffic was insane moving at a snail's pace because of the rally which had just got over. We literally had to jump out from our car and hop skip and run towards Babu Ghat where the Ganga Aarti unfolds against the illuminated Howrah Bridge. The whole scene was spectacular overwhelming with faith and divinity. After completing the Cinematic city tour Paulmi left. She was efficient in covering the places as planned. We were free to drive past Park Street and go to a highly rated restaurant “ 6 Ballygunge Palace “Tasted some mouth-watering vegetarian Bengali dishes. Back to Taj Bengal for a good rest. 2nd day of the visit was “ Chasing the Sun and Spiritual Kolkata. We skipped the early morning viewing of the Wrestling match practice in the maidan and the Mullick Ghat Flower Market. Stopped over for hot tea at a road side shop, enjoyed the flavoured tea in mud pots and then proceeded to Dakshineswar Kali temple, Belur math , Adyapith temple and then drove to Kalighat to have darshan of the famous Kali Ma. Unbelievable crowd pushing and jostling but we were lucky to go through the maze of people with the help of a priest who was Paulami's friend and had a good darshan of Ma Kali. Then we went to one of the most popular restaurant OH! Calcutta for lunch. The authentic vegetarian Bengali Cuisine was excellent. Then drove back to our hotel to catch the flight to Chennai. It was a memorable and a fabulous visit to Kolkata after 51 years for me. I will certainly say visit Kolkata through "Get Local Tours. As a family each one of us want to thank Paulami for being a very good guide on our short 2 day trip to Kolkata.Posted on Google Jay SehraTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We used all modes of travel, old yellow taxi, bus, ferry and casually I learned little by little as we went all about its history , politics and nature.
